FAQs for Collaborating Physicians

What are the benefits of collaborating with NP Collaborator?

NP Collaborator provides a secure, compliant, and convenient collaboration environment that helps expand your practice and maximize your earning potential.

We ensure compliance across:

- Contract specifications
- State-specific capacity and chart review requirements
- Check-ins, referrals, and geographic limitations
- Quality assurance and specialty-specific mandates

Additionally, NP Collaborator allows you to set your own pay rates and makes the process easy and efficient for you to onboard and provide monthly service.

What are the monthly commitments for a collaborating physician?

Collaboration requirements vary by the services provided:

Monthly Meetings: Regular monthly meetings, typically via video conference, which may include clinical and professional development discussions.

Ongoing Support: Timely response to clinical inquiries and escalations, if any, from the Nurse Practitioner

Chart Reviews: Conduct state-mandated number of chart reviews monthly. Currently no state requires more than 10% chart reviews.

Time Commitment: For a typical collaboration, you will spend 1-2 hours a month.

How are physicians and Nurse Practitioners matched?

When Nurse Practitioners search for a collaborating physician, they will be able to filter on state, type of practice, and other factors. We provide an average of 4-5 matches. From there, the NP reviews physician profiles and their monthly fees and selects 1-2 for interviews.

What is the distinction between a Collaborating Physician and a Medical Director?

A Collaborating Physician provides supervision and guidance to Nurse Practitioners, ensuring compliance with clinical standards. In contrast, a Medical Director oversees medical operations and services within a healthcare organization, providing leadership and strategic direction.

What is the onboarding process timeline?

Once you complete your profile with the minimum information required, your profile will be live within 2 business days and visible to searching NPs. We ask only minimal information to allow you to get onboarded as quickly as possible. Once you are selected the first time, additional information and credentials will be required before the collaboration will begin.

What documentation is required for collaborating physicians?

Physicians will build an online profile, submit a disclosure form, and a credentialing profile to start the process. Once you are selected for your first collaboration, additional documentation and credentialing will be required.

How do we schedule initial and recurring meetings?

We use calendar links to streamline scheduling. We will send a follow up link via email, after your initial credentialing is complete, to sync your calendar to enable prospective Nurse Practitioners to schedule initial calls with you.

What if I obtain additional state licensures?

Update your account by sending us your new licensure information, and we'll update your profile accordingly.

Does NP Collaborator offer support and training for new Collaborating Physicians?

We provide comprehensive resources including guides, newsletters, and webinars, to assist physicians in excelling in their roles as Collaborating Physicians.

What insurance is required?

NP Collaborator provides medical malpractice insurance. There will be no need to be listed as a secondary provider on the Nurse Practitioner’s malpractice insurance.

How is payment handled?

At the end of each month, you will attest on our portal that you have completed the collaboration requirements that month. Payments are issued via direct deposit monthly for each active collaboration, typically on the 5th following the first full month of collaboration

How are monthly meetings scheduled?

Our preferred method involves using a group-compatible calendar system, giving each physician the autonomy to manage their meeting schedules. Successful strategies include:

1.) Establishing a specific, recurring time for meetings, providing regularity for all parties involved.

2.) Providing a scheduling link to Nurse Practitioners, who must then select their meeting times with the physician confirming the scheduled appointments.

What is the process for chart sharing?

Charts are typically accessible in two secure manners:

    - Nurse Practitioners grant physicians access to their Electronic Medical Records (EMR).

    - Alternatively, charts can be sent via a HIPAA-compliant, encrypted email system, for which Proton is recommended for its robust encryption.

Can I engage in multiple collaborations?

Yes, you can participate with multiple Nurse Practitioners as long as you provide details of your other collaborations if working outside our network. This ensures compliance with state-specific capacity limits.

Can I terminate a collaboration?

Yes, collaborations can be terminated with a 30-day notice, allowing sufficient time for both parties to make necessary adjustments.
